Battle of Karbala and Start Journey From Basra:

Basra is one of the important for the Muslims. It has renamed as huge cultural center in Arab Caliphate and several of the numerous scholars were either born here and got education from here.

It is situated near to Karbala and most of the pilgrims start their journey from there. Karbala is very importance in history of Islam as Hazrat Imam Hussein (RA) and his companions were martyred by vicious army of Yazid. Hazrat Ali Bin Hussein known as Zain-ul-Abideen only survived from the battle as he was ill.

He was the only son of Hazrat Imam Hussein (RA) and was later known as Imam Zain-ul-Abideen.

Following martyrs are buried there.

2. Ali Akbar (RA)

3. Ali Asghar (RA)

4. Habib ibn Madhahir (RA) 

5. Abbas ibn Ali (RA)

6. Qasim ibn Hassan (RA)

and many other holy personalities (May Allah Be Pleased With All of Them)

There are two main pilgrimage sites.

Shrine of Imam Hussein (RA)

Imam Hussein (AS) shrine is very important for most of Muslims. He (RA) had several names due to being leader of the Muslims and great matryrdom he faced in Battle of Karbala. They are The Martyr of Martyrs, Master of the Martyrs, Master of the Youth of Paradise.

Pilgrims offer salat in his mosque, recite specific prayers for him which are called ziyarah.
